Victor man identified as person fatally struck by tractor

Jun 13, 2023Jun 13, 2023

New York State Police have named Timothy M. Oherron, 46, from Victor, as the man who was fatally struck by a tractor-trailer on the Thruway in Farmington on August 18.

The tragic incident, which transpired around 7:24 p.m., took place between Exit 44 (Canandaigua) and Exit 43 (Manchester) at mile marker 344.5 eastbound.

Oherron had been associated with a 2014 Audi S4, and a concerned citizen had earlier reported concerns for his well-being to the Ontario County 911 dispatch.

The tractor-trailer, a 2024 Freightliner, was driven by John R. Lapolla, 59, of Florida. As he traveled eastward, Lapolla noticed a vehicle on the side with its hazard lights activated.

Due to traffic in the passing lane, Lapolla could not switch lanes. Suddenly, Oherron entered the traffic lane, leaving Lapolla with no time to prevent the collision.

Oherron was pronounced dead at the scene, while Lapolla remained unharmed. Although impairment isn’t considered a cause, a mandatory drug test was administered to Lapolla in line with federal regulations for truck drivers. The investigation continues.
